Dan Webster and Emily Lawler plus Band
Dan Webster has been described as ‘one of the U.K’s best kept musical secrets and one not to miss!’, ‘Achingly lovely, like sun breaking on a rain swept highway…’ RnR and an ‘An insightful lyricist with a great voice’ Acoustic Magazine. According to Americana UK - ‘He is the missing link, the joining point, where folk fuses with country – as good as you’ll hear on any record out of Austin or Nashville - beautiful – he is Anglicana’. Dan is a road-seasoned English singer-songwriter and guitarist, his music is influenced by the sounds and storytelling traditions of Americana, which he uniquely melds with an honest Northern English perspective in his songwriting. His sound is unashamedly influenced by the US - his heart remains a Yorkshireman’s.
Dan like his band is a formidable live performer - inspiring attention; pulling you into his work with finely crafted melodies and lyrics - delivered with a powerful and honest vocal...fantastic solo, duo, or with his band. They’ll have laughing, dancing and crying.
The press is unanimous!
Dan Webster’s subtle exploration of the human heart resonated with me after each spin of his fine new record... which draws assuredly on folk and country roots from across the Atlantic but remains assertively northern English. RnR ****
Webster proves to be a master story teller and fine entertainer County Music Magazine ****
Dan Webster played an impressive set at Maverick… performing under his name a permanent band… well-honed violin of Emily Lawler and cello of Rachel Brown weaving interesting lines and counter melodies… incorporates folk and bluegrass but also draws on Springsteen… Country Music People Magazine
“Mixing folk, country and even a little rock ‘n’ roll, all delivered with a clear, distinctive voice, some great playing and an immaculate sound, it stopped me in my tracks.” Folk Radio UK
‘There’s a real exuberance to the performance, the audience were soon having a hoe down as the band’s energy became infectious, the crowd were enthralled.’ Kendal Calling review by 3 Songs and Out
‘He is the missing link, the joining point, where folk fuses with country – as good as you’ll hear on any record out of Austin or Nashville - and Alt rock.’ Americana UK 9/10
“His delivery is passionate, this album boasts a big, big heart.” Folk Radio UK
As well as a recording artist, Dan is a skilled producer working with several rising stars of the roots scene including The Magpies, Bella Gaffney, Polly Bolton, Joshua Burnell, Fran Wyburn and Rachel Croft.

SONS OF TOWN HALL
Welcome to the mythic world of Sons of Town Hall, the international, waterborne duo of George "Ulysses" Brown (UK) and Josiah "Chester" Jones (US). The pair transcends time and space, dressed in threadbare Victorian outfits, they meditate about the ocean, and sing songs that beg you to sing along. Their songs are masterful in their own right, poetic turns of phrases sung with voices so perfectly matched it is impossible to tell them apart, harmonies so sublime they will seem the work of witchcraft, and intricately finger-picked guitar parts worthy of Apollo himself. But it is Sons of Town Hall's presentation that sets them apart from every other guitar-slinging songwriting team out there.
The show is three-parts concert, one-part theater and unlike anything most have ever experienced. George and Josiah's between-song repartee is unique and absolutely hilarious, as they share their tales of traveling the world on the water and roaming the frontier looking for work. The affection they feel for each other is contagious, and audiences leave in love with both of them, with each other, and with life in general.
You will laugh. You will cry. You will be transfixed and transformed, drunk on adventure and the tragic beauty of the human condition.
Highly, highly recommended.
"Seamless vocal harmonies...stories of sea voyages, betrayal and desolation... a more coherent concept you’ll be pushed to find" The Observer
"It’s part balladry, part performance art, and totally cool. … Think Simon & Garfunkel lost at sea, and you get a sense of the mythic world at play here." Philadelphia Inquirer

Outcast
Presented as part of Ripon Theatre Festival
Please note – this theatre experience starts at The Leper Chapel and ends at Ripon Arts Hub – details below.
Join writers Paul Mills and Andy Croft in the atmospheric surroundings of the Leper Chapel to tune in to a little-known period of the Middle Ages – The Anarchy. They will share the context and history underpinning their new play examining the lives of individuals living with leprosy. Set in Medieval Ripon, Outcast explores a range of political and social themes that still resonate in the present including poverty, control and environmental collapse.
Following the writers’ introduction, selected scenes will brought to life in a workshop performance at the Arts Hub. A small group of professional actors will have been working intensively with Director Kate Veysey for just a few hours on selected scenes from the play.
Staging will be minimal; the emotions and issues raised will not! Your response and reflections will help the writers to shape the future direction of the piece.
Writers, Andy and Paul were instrumental in the establishment and development of Ripon Poetry Festival. Both are well known for their poetry and work in the theatre.
Out of Character Theatre Company, an innovative York-based charity and theatre ensemble comprised of artists and performers who have lived experience of mental ill health, will provide the cast for the workshop performance. Founded in 2009, the company uses theatre to challenge mental health stigma, promote social inclusion, and provide creative pathways for recovery.

One Man Poe
Presented as part of Ripon Theatre Festival.
Renowned as the ‘Godfather of Gothic Horror’, Edgar Allan Poe was a pioneer in establishing the horror genre. Although his works are nearly 200 years old, Poe’s stories have stood the test of time and have inspired a countless number of horror writers. The Tell-Tale Heart is an insight into the mind of a madman, convincing us he is sane.
The Pit and the Pendulum follows a prisoner of the dreaded Spanish Inquisition, undergoing various mental and physical tortures.
The Black Cat documents an alcoholic confessing his heinous crimes on the eve of his death.
The Raven is the poem that made Poe famous – a mysterious midnight visit from an ominous talking raven.

JOHN KIRKPATRICK & SUE HARRIS
With BENJI KIRKPATRICK
John & Sue met in 1970, married in 1971, and began making music together as a duo on the English Folk Scene and beyond. In 1973 they moved to Shropshire, and went on to produce four sons (Benji is Number Two), five LPs, and two Morris Teams, and spent time in Dingle’s Chillybom Band, The Albion Country Band, Umps & Dumps, and The Richard Thompson Band. They provided music, song, and dance for numerous plays in the theatre and on radio, but gradually worked together less and less, until a final appearance in 1992.
Thirty-two years later they have joined forces again for the occasional gig, usually with Benji, who has been striding out in his own right as a soloist and as a member of Bellowhead, Faustus, and The Seth Lakeman Band.
You’ll hear large chunks of their old repertoire, along with a few new compositions and arrangements, solo spots from Benji, and several numbers with all three playing together.
The Arts Hub well stocked bar will be open at 7.00pm, hall at 7.20 and music at 7.45.
This will be an all seated event in this intimate venue.

Fixing
When Matt was little, their dad bought a classic car. A 1952 Sunbeam Talbot Mark II. Dad had ideas that he and Matt would do it up, repair, rebuild together. They never did, and the car festered in a garage.
I mean, Dad had just been through a divorce.
Now in their 30’s, Matt would like to learn how to fix a car engine. They’d like to learn a bit more about Dad, and that time, when Dad and Mum split up. The time when Matt and Dad were closest.
Matt can’t do this alone, which is tricky for a solo show. That’s where Matt’s drag alter-ego Natalie Spanner comes in. She knows all about things that girls like Natalie know about. Like how to build an engine. About maintenance, care and repair.
Together, Matt and Natalie will try to ask, in an increasingly broken world, how might we repair ourselves, together?
A drag show about family break ups, car breakdowns, and how to get over them.
